Australia New Zealand Vacation Rentals

How can a single country have world-class cities, snowfields, deserts, rainforests and golden beaches? Well, being nearly 8 million km≤ in size, Australia has a lot of ground to cover.

Australiaís awesome natural beauty is talked about worldwide with wonder. And while Australians are proud of the diverse landscape, they are equally proud of the diversity of their people and the warm welcome they offer visitors from near and far.

Australians are laid back. Enjoying food and sport are common pastimes for many Aussies. The landscape varies from endless sunbaked horizons to dense tropical rainforest to chilly southern beaches. Scattered along the coasts, its cities blend a European enthusiasm for art and food with a laid-back love of sport and the outdoors.

Visitors expecting to see an opera in Sydney one night and meet Crocodile Dundee the next will have to re-think their grasp of geography in this huge country. It is this sheer vastness that gives Australia - and its diverse population - much of its character. With over 7.5 million sq km of sparsely populated territory, it's not surprising that Australia is an adventure playground. You can chew up the km with a 4WD, or explore smaller regions by foot, horseback or even on the back of a camel. You can also find some fine touring country for cycling, though only the very experienced should tackle the dry centre, and there are some fabulous trails for hiking. Surprisingly Australia also offers some excellent skiing and snow-boarding. There are countless surfing beaches along the Australian coast, and diving spots are also many, especially on Queensland's Great Barrier Reef. White-water rafting and/or canoeing are possible on the country's mighty rivers. Whalewatching is possible at many places; the most popular are Eden in New South Wales, Warrnambool in Victoria, Albany in Western Australia and Fraser Island in Queensland. If you're coming from Europe or the USA, Australia is going to look pretty cheap. Food, in particular, is great value. Accommodation is also reasonably priced, and if you're staying in hostels or on-site caravans (trailers) or camping, and mostly making your own meals you could conceivably get by on about AUD35 to AUD45 a day. Travel will be your biggest expense - distances are huge - so if you're moving around a bit, eating out once or twice a day and staying in budget hotels, plan for around AUD85 a day. If you're only staying for a couple of weeks and plan to take a few internal flights, you'll be looking at more like AUD170 a day.

Credit cards (particularly Visa and MasterCard) are widely accepted (and pretty much compulsory if you're going to rent a car), and ATMs all over the country accept credit and Cirrus cards. Tipping is gaining a foothold in Australia, particularly in cafes and restaurants in the bigger cities, and a tip 10-15% is usual. However, you won't cause offense if you don't tip. Taxi drivers are always grateful if you leave the change. Our Australian/New Zealand vacation rentals also include accommodations from Australia home rentals, villas, oceanfront estates and cottages. Each property has descriptions, photos and contact information for the individual property owners or managers.

New Zealand has known human habitation for less than a thousand years. Before then, it was a land of forests, mountains and beaches. The loudest sounds were birdsong, wind and waves. Fourteen spectacular national parks preserve New Zealand's natural heritage. Enshrining a huge variety of landscapes, vegetation and wildlife, our parks allow you to discover the heart and soul of a country that will never be totally tamed. In the geological sense, New Zealand has had a colourful past. The ice age carved the exquisite fretwork of Fiordland and the Marlborough Sounds, huge tectonic forces pushed up the Southern Alps and volcanism on a fearsome scale shaped (and continues to shape) much of the North Island. The result of all this action is scenery to die for ó a landscape jam-packed with interest. Strange and unusual experiences await the traveller who checks out New Zealandís idiosyncrasies. Peer into the bright blue of glacier ice, smell the sulphurous steam from a seething geothermal vent, delve into the limestone underworld or watch a waterfall plunge more than 600 metres into one of the worldís deepest fiords. Your explorations will be rewarded with a sense of awe that will never quite go away.
