The timeless summers of childhood are alive and well in Vermont Vacation Rental land. From swimming holes and ice cream parlors, to outdoor concerts and mountain hikes, the long days of summertime are a perfect frame to Vermont's relaxed pace of life. Vermont's brand of fun is natural, real and pure. Which is why families feel free to spend a few days or a few weeks tucked away in the hills.

Sure, it's known as "a footpath in the wilderness." But even on the Long Trail, there are times when a self-sufficient hiker can use a hot meal and a cold drink. Over the course of 270 miles, hikers pass several opportunities to connect ever so briefly with civilization. One popular spot is found just north of the Camel's Hump summit. The trail plunges down to U.S. Route 2 in Jonesville where the Jonesville Country Store offers tasty sandwiches and a chance to replenish your pack. In Clarendon, the trail crosses VT Route 103 within a half mile of the Whistlestop Restaurant. Hungry hikers devour delicious burgers and strawberry shortcake before heading back to the freeze dried stroganoff. Down the trail at Stratton Mountain, the sandwiches at Partridge-in-a-Pantry Deli draws hikers in as does the all-you-can-eat buffet at Grizzlies Restaurant at the Resort. For more info about the Long Trail, visit the Green Mountain Club. Or, to learn more about Vermont's Country Stores, check out the Vermont Alliance of Independent Country Stores.

Sure, the scale of things is small in Vermont - unless you're talking about live music. So you're tired of battling big crowds to see your favorite music artists? Head to Vermont where big name performers play some of the smallest, most intimate music clubs you'll find anywhere. Any discussion of live music in Vermont starts in Killington where a number of venues host national acts all winter long. The Pickle Barrel and the Wobbly Barn are two of the most notable. In Burlington, Higher Ground has a packed schedule of local, regional and national artists including big names like the Wallflowers, Lucinda Williams and occasional appearances by members of Vermont's own Phish and The Samples. On the eastern side of the state the scenic village of Bradford is home to the Middle Earth Music Hall. This 150 seat spot has the atmosphere of sitting in your living room where nationally known folks, such as Steve Forbert, Cheryl Wheeler, Stacey Earle or Annie Clark, just happen to drop by for an evening of music. In Middlebury, a local church is the performance space for the After Dark Music Series. Started in 1995 the series has hosted such well-known performers as Tom Paxton, Chris Smither, Kate and Anna McGarrigle and John Gorka. Our Vermont Vacation Rental communities are loaded with great local music spots.
